A hunter’s intestine piles and unrecovered carcasses are tempting meals to scavenging eagles. Many carcasses include lead fragments, which the eagle and different scavengers ingest along with the meat. Eagles will be killed with very small portions of lead contamination in their food. The risk of lead poisoning motivated the 1991 ban on lead pictures in waterfowl searching, so Bald Eagles would not be exposed of their most well-liked habitats of wetlands and lakes.
