Several Catholic adoption agencies requested exemption from sexual orientation rules, and the adoption charity Catholic Care obtained a judgement on 17 March 2010 instructing the Charity Commission to reconsider its case. Catholic Care acknowledged its intention to enchantment the judgement. The case is awaiting an attraction to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. In September 2021, a report from the Council of Europe on anti-LGBTI sentiment in Europe described anti-trans rhetoric within the United Kingdom as having gained "baseless and regarding credibility, on the expense of both trans individuals's civil liberties and women's and youngsters's rights", citing an increase in anti-trans hate crimes since 2015 and statements made on the 2021 IDAHOT forum by Minister of Equalities, Kemi Badenoch. Within the 2002 European Court of Human Rights case Goodwin v United Kingdom, the UK was discovered to be in breach of Articles eight and 12 of the European Convention on Human Rights underneath this establishment. The Charity Commission once more found no grounds to make an exception for Catholic Care, a call upheld on appeal. In November 2012, the enchantment was dismissed by the Upper Tribunal, with the Tribunal ruling in favour of the Charity Commission.
