The two friends immediately began organising their very own Pistols-type group, Buzzcocks. On 13 September, the Pistols started a tour of Britain. The Pistols performed their first gig exterior Britain on three September, on the opening of the Chalet du Lac disco in Paris. Three days later, the band were in Manchester to tape their first television look, for Tony Wilson's So It Goes. However, Jones' taking part in had greatly improved, and New left a month after becoming a member of the band. Jones renamed Lydon as "Johnny Rotten" as a joke, apparently due to his particularly unhealthy teeth. In late 1974, Jones asked McLaren to take over the band's management. Soon after, either Rhodes or McLaren requested Lydon to audition.
