In January 1994, Farrar referred to as manager Tony Margherita to tell him of his resolution to go away the band. Uncle Tupelo break up on Could 1, 1994, after finishing a farewell tour. Uncle Tupelo recorded demo tracks in the attic studio of future Chicago punk producer Matt Allison in Champaign, Illinois. Wade Farrar was the lead singer of the band, but his dedication to Southern Illinois University and an attempted enlistment within the United States Army meant he was solely able to dedicate a small amount of time to the group.
